Good morning Mets fans!

The Mets’ game against the Phillies Friday was postponed due to rain. There will be a doubleheader in Philadelphia on August 20. It will be a split admission doubleheader, where the first game begins at 1:05 p.m. ET, and the second game will be at 7:15 p.m.

The Mets hope to play Saturday in Game 2 of the series, as Kyle Gibson will take on Max Scherzer, the matchup that was supposed to happen Friday. However, there is more rain in the forecast, so it could also end a postponement.

On This Date in Mets History

Birthdays: James Loney (37)

2012: Jordany Valdespin cranks a walk-off, pinch-hit, three-run homer for his first major league hit against Jonathan Papelbon and the Phillies.

2013: Matt Harvey‘s bloody-nose gem. Harvey tossed a nine-inning, one-hit masterpiece, allowing no runs over those frames. However, the Mets managed to also get shutout through the game, forcing extra innings. Mike Baxter got a walk-off hit to send fans home happy in the tenth.

2016: Bartolo Colon, has gone deep!” That’s right, on this special day in 2016, Bartolo Colon hit his first major league home run after 19 years in the majors. Every baseball fan had been rooting for the moment to happen over his Mets tenure, and then it finally did in the last year of his contract. Colon smacked a two-run homer into the Western Metal Supply Co. building at Petco Park in San Diego, providing Mets, and baseball fans, with a memory that will stick around forever.

2020: J-Lo and Alex Rodriguez‘s bid to buy the Mets officially ended. After a long period where the two were aggressively pursuing a purchase of the team, they finally back off. It seemed as though the reluctance of the Wilpon’s to sell SNY was a big reason for this.

2021: Rat or raccoon? Jeff McNeil and Francisco Lindor had an argument in the tunnels of the dugout during the game that caused quite the stir. The two had said after the game that they were arguing over a varmint, as they were debating whether it was a rat or raccoon. Turned out later that the two were actually fighting, but the ratcoon story will live on forever.

Let’s go Mets!
