The longtime voice of Mets radio, Howie Rose, will not broadcast any more Mets games this season. He’s taking an extended leave of absence to deal with personal health issues.

Wednesday was supposed to be Rose’s final game this year but the postponement advanced it one day. Before he left we still got one more signature put it in the books from Howie Rose to hold us over until he returns for Spring Training in 2022.

Howie was able to get a curtain call at Citi Field as well.

Rose announced he’d be leaving the booth on August 30 and is scheduled to undergo surgery later this week.

Mets fans gathered chanting “Howie! Howie! Howie!” at the beloved broadcaster.

Manager Luis Rojas took a second to wish him the best,

Rose spoke with David Waldstein of the New York Times after announcing his departure. He initially received his prognosis in March and the last few weeks have been extremely difficult physically.

“It is going to be very tough not to be there, but it’s not my choice,” Rose said. “The last couple of days I have been thinking about my routine, how you get to the game and go to the booth and all of that. It is such a part of you. When you realize you won’t be doing that for a while, it’s a real shot in the stomach.”

In his absence, WCBS will have Wayne Randazzo move into the lead spot and team with Eddie Coleman for the majority of games. Special guest analysts include Terry Collins, Jerry Blevins, and Lee Mazzilli.

The recently Twitter verified announcer received plenty of well wishes.

We wish Howie the best in hopes of a speedy and painless recovery.
