With the trade deadline and draft in the rearview mirror it’s time to look at MMO’s version of the Mets updated Top 30 prospects list. Obviously this list looks a little bleaker following the trade of Pete Crow-Armstrong and the kerfuffle with Kumar Rocker. But, the healthy players at the top of this list have performed well in 2021 and seen that recognized in multiple mid-season top 100 lists.
Let’s take a look at the list.
- Francisco Alvarez – Catcher (as high as #5 prospect in baseball on FG)
- Brett Baty – 3B/LF (as high as #16 in baseball by BP and FG)
- Ronny Mauricio – SS (as high as #27 on FG)
- Matt Allan – RHP (as high as #62 on FG)
- Mark Vientos – 3B/1B/LF (top ranking is #86 by BA)
- J.T. Ginn – RHP (2nd RD pick from 2020)
- Alex Ramirez – CF (18-year-old playing with St. Lucie Mets)
- Khalil Lee – OF (150 wRC+ in Triple-A)

- Cole Gordon – RHP (Hasn’t allowed an earned run in last 31 Double-A innings)
- Wilmer Reyes – INF (Great glove, missed most of season with knee injury)
- Joshua Cornielly – RHP (missed 2021 season)
- Adam Oller – RHP (31.2 K%, up to Triple-A as starter)
As you can see, the Mets system takes a drop off following the top group. They’ve also been hit hard by arm injuries to Allan, Suarez, Szapucki, Ventura, Richard Brito, and Daison Acosta. A few other names to watch in the hard-throwing department are Colin Holderman (hit 99 mph when I saw him earlier this year), Michel Otanez, Bryce Montes De Oca (hit 101 mph), and Sammy Tavarez.
Another pitching name to keep an eye on is right-hander Joel Diaz. The 17-year-old hasn’t allowed a run in 31 innings pitching for the Dominican Summer League Mets this year. His fastball is up to 94 mph and he pairs that with a high spin curveball.
Right-handed starter Tylor Megill is the big graduation from this list as he continues to show the Mets he’s a legitimate major league starter.
