Good morning, Mets fans!

Wednesday night, the Mets came back and won Tuesday’s suspended game (3-1, second inning) by a score of 8-7. Rich Hill (6-4, 4.05) stepped up and offered to pitch the middle innings after Carlos Carrasco’s start was shortened by the rain delay. Hill allowed an inherited runner to score before cruising through three innings, and then was tagged for three runs in the fifth.

The Mets rallied in the third inning for a few runs, thanks to Jeff McNeil, Michael Conforto, and J.D. Davis RBIs. After falling behind 7-4 later on, the Mets took advantage of some shoddy Nationals defense and another clutch Brandon Drury late-inning hit to take an 8-7 lead. Edwin Diaz came on and worked a perfect 9th to get his 24th save.

The second game of the day was supposed to start at 7:10 ET, but the weather had other plans.

Today, New York and Washington will make another attempt at playing two, starting at 12:10 PM ET as a single-admission doubleheader. It will be Marcus Stroman (7-11, 2.83) going in game one, and trade-deadline acquisition Trevor Williams (4-2, 5.06) making his Mets debut in game two. Erick Fedde will start one of the games for Washington, and the other is TBD (likely a bullpen game). With a pair of wins and some help from the Dodgers and Reds, the Mets could jump into first place.
