Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported late Wednesday night that according to a source, the New York Mets have signed outfielder Josh Reddick to a minor league deal.

Reddick, a veteran outfielder from Savannah, Georgia has spent time with the Boston Red Sox (2009-2011), Oakland Athletics (2012-2015, 2016), Los Angeles Dodgers (2016), Houston Astros (2017-2020), and most recently the Arizona Diamondbacks during his big league career.

Arizona released Reddick after he was designated for assignment earlier this week. He was hitting .258/.285/.371 with a .656 OPS, 11 doubles, two home runs, and 21 RBI through 54 games this season.

During the 2020 pandemic shortened campaign with the Astros, Reddick hit .245/.316/.378, with a .693 OPS over 56 games. He also hit 11 doubles, one triple, and four home runs, with 23 RBI.

Reddick has earned many awards throughout his career. He was a part of the 2017 World Series Champion Houston Astros team, a 2012 AL Gold Glove recipient, and a three-time AL Player of the Week.

As we’ve seen this season, there’s no such thing as too much depth. The 34-year old outfielder provides the Mets with another solid veteran depth piece behind Albert Almora Jr and the struggling Kevin Pillar.
