The Mets sent Rich Hill to the mound Wednesday afternoon to complete the suspended game from Tuesday evening. Mets manager Luis Rojas said the original plan was to starter reliever Drew Smith, but Hill came to Rojas on Tuesday night saying he wanted the ball.

Hill started the game in the top of the second inning losing 3-1 thanks to a Carlos Carrasco three-run home run in the first inning on Tuesday. The veteran lefty entered the game with nobody out and a runner on first base.

Hill gave up an RBI double in the second inning to Victor Robles, Riley Adams scored after he singled last night before the game ended up going to a rain delay. Hill worked around the double and was able to get out of the inning without anymore damage as the Mets trailed 4-1.

In the third inning Hill was able to strike out Carter Kieboom, and Adams managed to reach safely to first on an error by Jeff McNeil. Joe Ross followed up with a strikeout to end the inning. In the fourth inning Hill was dealing, and struck out Robles and Alcides Escobar to begin the inning. Juan Soto singled, and Josh Bell grounded out to end the inning.

Things began to fall apart for Hill in the fifth, and he walked Yadiel Hernández to begin the inning, Kieboom reached on an infield single, and Luis Garcia ended up doubling in two runs to make it a 6-4 ballgame, ending Hill’s outing.

Jeurys Familia reliever Hill, and gave up an RBI single to Adams to allow an inherited runner to score.

Hill ended up going three innings, gave up four hits, three earned runs, walked three and managed to strikeout four batters. Hill has struggled since being traded with a 5.00 ERA in four outings.

After the game Hill said, “It’s going to be like this for the next month and a half. It’s going to be very intense games.”

Luckily for Hill and the Mets, the offense woke up on Wednesday. They score one run in the seventh and two runs in the eighth to secure a 8-7 win.

Hill is going to need to pitch a lot better, especially until Jacob deGrom comes back, if the Mets are going to want to have any hopes of reaching the playoffs.
