Yet another new arm is on his way to Queens.
On Wednesday evening, the Mets announced that RHP Akeem Bostick was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. Bostick has yet to make an appearance in the major leagues. In 37.2 innings with Syracuse this season, Bostick is 0-4 with a 6.21 ERA.
Hailing from Florence, South Carolina, Bostick has bounced around different levels of the minor leagues for the past eight years. He’s also played for both the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros organizations. The Rangers made him a second-round draft selection in 2013.
Bostick’s stint on the roster is likely to be a short one. With offseason signing Carlos Carrasco returning from injury to start later this week, Bostick’s role will mainly be as a backup for Tylor Megill tonight if the Mets starter cannot go deep into the ballgame.
Jerad Eickhoff finds himself off the Mets roster for perhaps the final time all season. In his last start against the Braves, Eickhoff allowed 10 earned runs (including three home runs) in just 3.1 innings pitched.
Given that he was recalled to the Mets active roster just a few hours before the first pitch, hopes were not high for Eickhoff in his final outing. Now, he departs the Mets major league roster as the team seems to have a set pitching rotation again.
Forty-one-year-old veteran Rich Hill is slated to start on Saturday, while Carrasco is expected to make his season debut on Friday. Additionally, Noah Syndergaard appears on the right track to make his own season debut sometime in early September.
