Good morning, Mets fans!

Today, the Mets (and most of MLB) have a final off-day, one more day to rest and recuperate before heading into the grind of the second half that starts this weekend. The only game on deck today will be played just a borough away: Red Sox vs. Yankees, which will be live on ESPN at 7:08.

Now, let’s get into the briefing.

Latest Mets News

According to Mike Puma, we might not be seeing Jacob deGrom start the team’s first game out of the break. Puma reported that the team plans to start Marcus Stroman on Friday, and as for deGrom, the Mets want to make sure he feels 100% and is well-rested before committing to a day, but Sunday seems to be a possible return date. It could be Taijuan Walker on Saturday, then, depending on how he recovers from his inning in Tuesday’s All-Star game.

Puma also reported yesterday afternoon that J.D. Davis, who has been raging hot in Syracuse during his rehab stint, is set to rejoin the Mets at the start of the second half.

In injury news, Carlos Carrasco is finally set to begin his first rehab assignment since joining the team in the offseason’s blockbuster Francisco Lindor trade. The Brooklyn Cyclones announced on Twitter that Carrasco will be pitching in tonight’s game. He is expected to go somewhere between 1-3 innings.

The Boston Red Sox have called up top prospect Jarren Duran. The outfielder features plus-plus speed, and is set to make his big league debut in the team’s upcoming series against the Yankees.

After the White Sox designated veteran outfielder Adam Eaton for assignment last week, it didn’t take long for the left-hander to find a new home. The Angels signed Eaton on Wednesday afternoon, and in a corresponding move, designated LHP Dillon Peters for assignment.

2015: Outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis, recently acquired from the Angels, goes deep three times in his first three at-bats in a home win against the Diamondbacks. It was the tenth time a Met had done so in franchise history, but the first time it was done at home.
