Jacob deGrom pitched in a rehab assignment on Thursday with the St. Lucie Mets. He pitched a very strong outing, touching 102 mph on his fastball and 95 mph on his slider while striking out eight in three hitless innings. Today the Mets return to Florida to begin a series with the Miami Marlins.

He stated that whatever MLB has done with the ball isn’t working and they have “missed the mark so far.”
Per Betsy Helfand of the Pioneer Press, Tyler Duffey has received a three-game suspension for throwing behind Yermin Mercedes on Tuesday. He will be appealing that suspension. Twins Manager Rocco Baldelli received a one-game suspension and served that on Thursday night.
Per MiLB-Transactions, the Arizona Diamondbacks designated right-handed pitcher Yoan Lopez for assignment.
MiLB-Transactions also reported that the Seattle Mariners have designated first baseman Jose Marmolejos for assignment, as well as right-handed pitcher Brady Lail.

1969: With the Mets’ record at .500 at the latest point of the season in team history, Tom Seaver throws a three-hitter in a Mets’ 5-0 shutout of the Braves at Atlanta Stadium.
2005: Dae-Sung Koo bats against Randy Johnson. Mike Piazza says to David Wright in the dugout, “If he gets a hit, I’ll donate a million dollars to charity.” The Mets’ reliever, afraid to stand in the batters box the previous game, proceeded to hit a 91 mph fastball to wall in center field for a double. Piazza would then donate the one million dollars to charity.
2008: Willie Randolph apologizes for negative remarks he made concerning SNY’s coverage of his as a manager. He was the major league’s first black major league manager hired by the Mets and brought up race when asked about the way SNY was portraying him as a manager on national television.
