Dominic Smith was supposed to start in left field for today’s Grapefruit League game against the Miami Marlins, but he ended up being a late scratch with Mallex Smith taking his place in the starting lineup.

During manager Luis Rojas‘ media availability prior to the game, we learned that Smith’s injury is nothing more than some wrist soreness. Rojas said that Smith is day-to-day with this injury and still was able to get some work in today, he just can’t swing the bat for a few days.

The injury is to his right wrist, so it won’t impact throwing for the lefty.

Hopefully this injury does not hold Smith out of the lineup for too long, as the Mets want to get him plenty of playing time out in left field to get ready for the upcoming season. The 25-year-old has made three starts in left field so far this spring.
