The Mets fell 3-2 to the Miami Marlins on Wednesday afternoon at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium after the fish held on for a one-out, walk-off, two-run homer.

Joey Lucchesi threw three solid no-hit innings and struck out four in the process. Francisco Lindor knocked two of the Mets’ five hits, and Alberto Almora‘s two-run double put up New York’s only runs of the afternoon.

On the Mound

Joey Lucchesi took the mound for his first official start of spring training. Still competing for the fifth spot in the Mets’ rotation, the lefty allowed no hits, struck out four and walked two.

Jesus Aguilar drew a two-out walk in the first inning, but Garrett Cooper hit a line drive straight into Lindor’s glove at shortstop to end the inning.

Lucchesi allowed a second walk to Jazz Chisholm in the second, but picked the second baseman off at first to eliminate any further damage.

Robert Gsellman took over on the mound in the fourth. He threw two innings, allowing two hits and a run.

Gsellman gave up a lead-off single to Starling Marte but got out of the inning with a double play and groundout. In the fifth he was not as lucky, as he allowed a solo homer to Chisholm for the first run scored of the afternoon.

In relief, Jacob Barnes threw 11 pitches for the sixth inning and added a strikeout.

Tommy Hunter entered the game in the seventh and tossed a clean frame with one strikeout. Hunter walked Cooper and pinch-runner Monte Harrison stole second to put the tying man in scoring position, but Chisholm flew out to right to close the frame.

Stephen Tarpley threw the eighth and added two punch outs. The southpaw allowed a one-out single to Eddy Alvarez and walked Peyton Burdick but struck out the remaining two batters to get out of the jam.

Yennsy Diaz came in to close it out for the Mets but couldn’t preserve the lead. He’ll take the loss after surrenderinging a lead off walk to Lewin Diaz and a one-out, two-run walk off home run to Joe Dunand.

AT THE PLATE

New York notched two runs on seven hits in the game against Miami.

Lindor knocked a pair of singles in the first and fourth innings but was left stranded. There was nothing across for the Mets again until a Luis Guillorme single in the fifth, but the team couldn’t capitalize.

New York took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the seventh inning. Michael Conforto reached on a walk and Almora hit a two-out, two-run double on a fly ball to right to put the club ahead.
