The Mets head into an important offseason with multiple needs and a fan base that hopes a new owner with deep pockets will change the tune on free agent spending.

Among those needs is certainly a catcher, which has been the hottest topic with arguably the best in the game, J.T. Realmuto set to hit the open market. But, is catcher a bigger position of need than starting pitchers for a rotation that set a team record with a 5.37 ERA? Or a legitimate center fielder for a team that has consistently been one of the worst defensive teams in baseball recently? Fixing up a bullpen that continues to falter?

Obviously, the hope is that Steve Cohen will come in and fill all these needs. Easier said than done, even if you have a large budget.

The free agent catching market takes a pretty significant drop after Realmuto and James McCann, the starting pitching market is fairly thin outside of Trevor Bauer and Marcus Stroman, George Springer looks like the only two-way center fielder available, and simply throwing money at a bullpen doesn’t always work.

So, what is the Mets’ biggest need, what should be their top priority heading into the offseason?
