Minors Weekly Report: Amick, Aidan Smith Show Off Power

New members of the Mets organization, Billy Amick (A.J. Minter trade) and Aidan Smith (Freddy Peralta trade) had fantastic weeks at the plate, each hitting four home runs for their respective teams. Amick has been great all year, while Smith mostly struggled while he was with the Rays. Both players have made about as good of a first impression with the Mets as they possibly could.

Triple-A

The Syracuse Mets split their series with the Columbus Clippers, going 3-3 last week. It was a high-scoring set of games, with Columbus outscoring Syracuse 45-44. The Mets are now 17-21 in the second half of the season and 55-58 overall.

Nick Lorusso had a scorching start to his Triple-A career. In his first five games at the level, he went 7-for-18 with three home runs and seven RBIs, also adding two walks. Lorusso owns an .843 OPS between Double-A and Triple-A this year.

Jose Ramos went 5-for-20, recording a double, a triple and two home runs. Ramos also drove in five runs and added a walk. Ramos owns a .737 OPS between Double-A and Triple-A.

Vidal Bruján batted .500 in the series, going 7-for-14 with four doubles. He also walked five times and stole two bases. Bruján has just a .690 OPS in Triple-A this year.

Jonathan Santucci made his second Triple-A start, allowing four runs (three earned) in 5 1/3 innings. He allowed four hits and four walks while recording six strikeouts. Santucci now owns a 3.69 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A.

Joe Jacques looked solid out of the bullpen, making two appearances and tossing three scoreless innings. He allowed a hit and two walks with one strikeout. Jacques owns a 4.58 ERA with Syracuse.

Double-A

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies had perhaps their best series of the season, sweeping the Hartford Yard Goats in six games. Binghamton outscored Hartford 44-14 in these six games, including a game in which they won 23-3. The Rumble Ponies are now 17-22 in the second half of the season and 44-64 overall.

Billy Amick had a scorching week for the Rumble Ponies, going 5-for-17 with four homers and 11 RBIs. He also recorded three walks and a stolen base. Amick owns an .860 OPS this year, and a 1.387 OPS in seven games in the Mets organization.

Mitch Voit also continued his insane hot streak since his promotion to Double-A. In this series, he went 11-for-18 with three doubles, four walks and three stolen bases. Voit’s Double-A OPS in 11 games is now 1.483.

Noah Hall was excellent in his start, tossing six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts. He allowed just two hits and three walks and now has a 3.27 ERA in his first two starts with Binghamton.

R.J. Gordon was also great, allowing one run in six innings. He allowed three hits and a walk, while also recording 10 strikeouts. Gordon has now lowered his ERA to 5.64.

Channing Austin joined Hall and Gordon with an effective six-inning start, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Austin now has a 4.67 ERA in seven starts with Binghamton.

In his first start with the Mets organization, Gary Gill Hill looked great with five scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Gill Hill now has a 4.29 ERA this season.

High-A

The Brooklyn Cyclones also earned a series win, going 4-2 against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. The Cyclones are now 21-20 in the second half of the season and 46-60 overall.

Like his fellow new Mets prospect Billy Amick in Double-A, Aidan Smith also launched four home runs in his latest series. Smith went 10-for-22, also recording a double, three walks and two stolen bases. He led the team with eight RBIs and also scored six runs. Smith now has a .748 OPS this season.

Sammy Stafura also looked great in his first week as a Met, going 6-for-18 with four doubles and a walk. He owns a .961 OPS on the season.

Yonatan Henriquez went 7-for-18, recording two doubles, a home run and seven RBIs. He recorded two walks and two stolen bases, and now has a .599 OPS this year.

Nicolas Carreno was excellent in his start, tossing 5 2/3 hitless innings. He walked five but also struck out eight. Carreno now has a 5.26 ERA in nine games in High-A.

Luke Gabrysh made his Mets organization debut, allowing three runs in four innings. He allowed seven baserunners but recorded an impressive nine strikeouts. Gabrysh owns a 5.23 ERA this season.

Low-A

The St. Lucie Mets played a seven-game series against the Daytona Tortugas, making up a game from earlier in the season. The Mets went 3-4 to drop to 16-25 in the second half of the season and 49-58 overall.

Julio Zayas had an excellent week at the plate, going 8-for-21 with three home runs. He also recorded a double, three walks, and eight RBIs. Zayas now owns a .742 OPS this season.

Elian Peña looked great, going 8-for-20 with three doubles, two walks and a stolen base. Peña now has a .762 OPS on the season, which he’s playing entirely at 18 years old.

Kuhio Aloy made his professional debut and went 4-f0r-14 with a double and a home run, also adding two walks and four RBIs. Aloy was the Mets’ 11th-round pick this year.

Christian Rodriguez tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings in his lone outing of the week. He allowed four hits and a walk while striking out four. He has a 4.52 ERA this year.

Zack Mack looked good in three appearances, tossing 3 2/3 scoreless innings. He allowed a hit and two walks while striking out two. He owns a 2.58 ERA in 27 games with St. Lucie.

DSL Mets

The DSL Mets Blue had a strong week, going 4-1. They are now 20-30 this season. The DSL Mets Orange also went 4-1, moving to 27-23 on the season.

Royner Bravo had an excellent week for DSL Mets Blue, going 11-for-19 with a double, two triples, four walks and two stolen bases. He also drove in five runs and scored six. Bravo owns an .844 OPS this summer. On the mound, Jose Vielma tossed five innings, allowing an unearned run on just one hit. He also struck out three and has a 3.60 ERA in four games.

Sebastian Toro led the way offensively for DSL Mets Orange, going 5-for-17 with a double and three walks. Toro drove in a team-high eight RBIs and scored three runs. Toro owns a .728 OPS this year. On the mound, Olmedo Barria pitched five shutout innings, allowing four hits with three strikeouts. Barria owns a 2.18 ERA in 12 games.

Players of the Week

Offense – Billy Amick, 1B/3B Binghamton

Billy Amick has done nothing but mash since joining the Mets organization. He has five home runs in 29 at-bats with Double-A Binghamton and has hit the most home runs this season of anyone in the Mets organization. The 23-year-old will look to have a strong end to the season, which could set him up to play in Triple-A next year.

Pitching – Noah Hall, P Binghamton

Noah Hall did not pitch particularly well in Brooklyn this year, but he’s been great in two starts with Binghamton so far. The 25-year-old is an older prospect but looked great last year and has a chance to settle in to finish this season.
