Miami Marlins

Major League Baseball’s Department of Investigations is expected to finish a report on the origins of the Marlins’ COVID-19 outbreak in the next two days, according to Sports Illustrated’s Tom Verducci.

In the last week, 18 Marlins players and two coaches have tested positive for the coronavirus. All Marlins games are currently postponed through Sunday.

Miami placed starting second baseman Isan Diaz on its restricted list Friday, and he will opt out of the 2020 campaign despite testing negative for the coronavirus, according to MLB Network. Diaz 24, was one of the main pieces to arrive from the Milwaukee Brewers in the Christian Yelich trade in 2018.

The Miami Marlins acquired left-handed reliever Richard Bleier from the Baltimore Orioles for a player to be named on Friday. Bleier, 33, went 3-0 with a 5.37 ERA and four saves in 53 games last season. This year, he’s pitched three scoreless innings in two appearances.

Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies, who played the Marlins in their opening series, have been in isolation and were scheduled to resume play on Saturday with a doubleheader against the Blue Jays.

On Thursday, though, the weekend series was postponed after two Philadelphia staff members tested positive for COVID-19. The Phillies have not played since Sunday. They are currently not scheduled to play until Monday against the Yankees in New York.

Phillies center fielder Andrew McCutchen posted his reaction on Twitter, saying, “This really sucks.”

Atlanta Braves

Right-hander Touki Toussaint will start for the Braves against the Mets on Saturday, manager Brian Snitker announced. The Braves opened a rotation spot when they designated Mike Foltynewicz for assignment earlier this week.

Catcher Travis d’Arnaud stole a base in Friday night’s win against the Mets. It was his second career steal and first since 2014. D’Arnaud ripped a bases clearing single against his former team to break the game wide open, his third hit of the game. It was the first five RBI game of his career.

Dansby Swanson collected another two hits and two RBIs. He’s hitting .387 and is tied with Nelson Cruz for the most RBIs in the majors. His 11 are also the most by a Braves shortstop through eight games in Atlanta history.

Designated hitter Matt Adams has met expectations. ‘Big City’ has added power to the middle of the lineup and had two RBIs Friday, bringing his total to six in seven games. The Braves signed Adams days before opening day after the Mets let him go.

Washington Nationals

Veteran right-handed reliever Will Harris was placed on the 10-Day injured list by the Nationals on Friday with a strained right groin. The Nats signed Harris to a three-year contract this past offseason after a 2019 season in which he led all American League relievers with a 1.50 ERA as a member of the Astros.

Outfielder Juan Soto is still waiting to be cleared to play after getting the okay from MLB. Soto, 21, will be allowed to workout with the team on Saturday and play his first game Tuesday against the Mets. Soto had a breakout season for the Nationals in 2019, clubbing 34 homers and collecting 110 RBIs.

Starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg is no longer feeling the nerve pain in his right hand that prevented him from making his first two scheduled starts of the season. Thr veteran right-hander will throw off a mound this weekend and then potentially make his 2020 debut on Tuesday against the Mets.
