The sale of the Mets appears to be progressing quickly.

According to Charles Gasparino of Fox Business, Allen & Co. has established July 9 as the date that bids for ownership of the New York Mets should be received.

Gasparino reports that potential buyers may include a group led by Alex Rodriguez (this group would also have Vitamin Water founder Mike Repole and current Florida Panthers owner Vince Viola). Other suitors are Harris/Blitzer Entertainment (owners of the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils), and familiar name, Steve Cohen. The Reuben Brothers, real estate icons from Canada, may also bid for the Mets.

In Gasparino’s tweets, he notes that the group led by Rodriguez will reportedly bid around $2 billion, and that Cohen’s entry into the sweepstakes is not certain at ths point.

Mets fans have been eagerly awaiting news on the potential sale of the franchise, as frustration with current principal owners, Fred and Jeff Wilpon, continues to mount.

Earlier this week, it was reported that MLB had approved Rodriguez as a potential owner. His interest in the Mets has been widely speculated since the rumors that the team may be for sale began to circulate during the off-season.

The next several weeks are shaping up to be quite interesting for the Mets, with a planned beginning of the 2020 season slated for July 24, and the sale now ramping up toward conclusion in the fairly new future.

Stay tuned.

Update: July 2, 2020 5:30 p.m.

Gasparino states in a tweet that the potential buying group led by Alex Rodriguez has partnered with JP Morgan, in addition to Repole and Viola, to raise enough money to pursue the purchase of the Mets.

It would appear that Rodriguez’s group is making a strong bid to acquire ownership of the Mets. The next couple of weeks will be very telling as the sale process evolves.
