According to a report from Jeff Passan of ESPN, the NL East rival Nationals have agreed on a two-year, $10 million deal to bring catcher Yan Gomes back to the defending world champions.
Gomes, 32, started his career with the Blue Jays but has spent the majority of his career with the Indians. While he emerged as a star in his first two full seasons with Cleveland, his career has been hampered by injuries and inconsistencies ever since.
After a solid 2018, Gomes was traded to the Nationals, who at the time were in need of catching help. Gomes had a mediocre 2019 season, posting a 79 wRC+ and 0.8 fWAR in 97 games.
However, Gomes, who caught the final out of the World Series, has still proved to be a solid player when healthy, and is valued for defense behind the plate. He will form a nice catching tandem with Kurt Suzuki as the Nationals look to defend their World Series title in 2020.
