In his first start for his new club, 27-year-old right-hander Aaron Sanchez contributed six sparkling innings to the 12th no-hitter in Houston Astros franchise history, a 9-0 win over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

After coming to Houston from Toronto via trade on Wednesday — a bit overshadowed by the Astros’ acquisition of Zack Greinke — Sanchez walked two and struck out six before coming out after the sixth (92 pitches; 55 strikes).

Right-handers Will Harris (one inning, one walk allowed) and another trade-deadline addition, Joe Biagini (one inning, walk, strikeout) worked around some traffic to get the ball to fellow righty, Chris Devenski, who retired Kyle Seager, Omar Narvaez, and Daniel Vogelbach to close out the gem.

Michael Brantley (3-for-5, four RBI), Jose Altuve (2-for-5, HR), and Alex Bergman (2-for-5, two RBI) led the way in Houston’s win.

This is the second combined no-hitter the Mariners have been on the losing end of this season (Taylor Cole and Felix Peña, Los Angeles Angels, July 12).
