With his solo shot in the first inning of Saturday’s game versus the Cubs at Wrigley Field, New York Mets first baseman, Pete Alonso, has tied the franchise’s rookie home run record.

The single-season mark was previously held by former Mets outfielder Darryl Strawberry, who set the mark over 473 plate appearances in 1983. Alonso, 24, matched that mark in 314 plate appearances.

Facing Chicago left-hander Jose Quintana, Alonso scorched a 76 MPH curveball from the lefty 419 feet away, over the ivy in right-center field. Statcast measured the exit velocity of the blast at 108.1 MPH.

Alonso also broke the National League record for most home runs hit by a rookie before the All-Star break, previously held by Cody Bellinger, who had 25 dingers before the break in 2017.
