According to Tim Healey of Newdsay, the Mets have placed Triple-A outfielder Matt Kemp on the minor-league injured list. Healey says “He has experienced ‘lingering effects’ from his broken rib from his Reds stint, the Mets say. So he’s on the minor league injured list.”
Kemp, 34, is hitting .325/.278/.324 for Syracuse with a homerun.
Kemp was released by the Reds following a slow start after being traded by the Dodgers.
On a brighter note, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that the Mets got favorable news on recently injured shortstop Andres Gimenez. DiComo tweets “Mets top prospect Andres Gimenez, who was hit on the hand/wrist with a pitch last week, has avoided the worst. X-rays were negative, nothing broken. Gimenez will heal up for a few more days, then rejoin Double-A Binghamton when he’s able.”
Gimenez was placed on the injured list on June 5 after being hit by a pitch in the hand. Gimenez was off to a slow start in Binghamton, hitting .232/.305/.333.
