While many of the Mets’ players have been showing up to Spring Training over the last week or so, there was one notable omission from the list.

That player, Yoenis Cespedes, showed up to camp today as he can be seen walking in the parking lot with Amed Rosario.

Cespedes, 33, is recovering from double-heel surgery he received in 2018 and is not expected to make it back to the MLB team until at least the middle of the year. In the meantime, Cespedes will be working with Mike Barwis to try to get his legs back into shape as David Lennon of Newsday writes.

Mickey Callaway was very conservative when it came time to talk about when Cespedes would return in 2019, explaining that he is just hoping he is able to make an impact.

The outfielder is entering the third year of a four-year, $110 million contract. After he spends 60 days on the IL (Inactive List), the team will start to recoup some of the $29 million he will make this season through insurance, similar to how David Wright‘s injury issues were handled last season.
