The Mets defeated the Cleveland Guardians 6-2 on Tuesday night, snapping a three-game losing streak and earning their first victory since the trade deadline.
Luis Torrens led the offense, launching a three-run homer in the second inning before adding an RBI single in the fourth. Bo Bichette followed with a solo homer in the third, while Carson Benge added to the scoring with a 451-foot solo shot in the eighth. The Mets finished with nine hits and three home runs.
Sean Manaea worked around frequent traffic and made it through six innings of two-run ball. He allowed seven hits and five walks but limited the damage, stranding several runners as Cleveland finished 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
Nate Lavender made his major league debut and recorded four scoreless outs, including his first career strikeout. Lavender’s family made a lengthy trip to witness the occasion. According to SNY, some of his relatives took a train from Syracuse to Cleveland and arrived at 5 a.m. Lavender returned this season after missing all of 2025 and most of 2024 following two elbow surgeries.
The Mets and Guardians continue their three-game series Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. ET at Progressive Field. Christian Scott (3-3, 2.99 ERA) is scheduled to start for New York against Cleveland right-hander Tanner Bibee (4-11, 3.81 ERA).

Kodai Senga pitched a scoreless ninth inning in his first appearance since the Mets committed to using him as a high-leverage reliever. According to Steve Gelbs of SNY, the Mets want Senga to attack hitters in short bursts primarily with his fastball and forkball.
Senga told Anthony DiComo of MLB.com that he still wants to start but understands why the Mets made the change.
“The team could just tell me, ‘Look at your stats,’” Senga said. “And I don’t have anything to say back to them.”
Former Mets draft pick Brian Metoyer is now one promotion away from the major leagues. The Mets’ 2018 40th-round selection has recorded a 2.77 FIP and 13.38 strikeouts per nine innings with Double-A Binghamton this season.

The Milwaukee Brewers optioned former Mets prospect Brandon Sproat to Triple-A Nashville. The move helped create room for pitchers Dustin May and Antonio Senzatela, who were added to Milwaukee’s active roster following the trade deadline.
MLB Pipeline looked at seven organizations that added prospect talent at the trade deadline. The Mets led all teams by acquiring eight players who immediately entered their new organization’s Top 30 prospect list. The Orioles and Giants were next with five apiece.
According to Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game, the Atlanta Braves released veteran outfielder Andrew McCutchen from his minor league contract. McCutchen signed with Atlanta in July but never appeared for the major league club.
According to Mike Rodriguez, the Los Angeles Angels designated Jorge Soler for assignment.
