The New York Mets lost 6-4 to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Monday night as Noah Syndergaard struggled in six innings of work.

Pitching

Noah Syndergaard had a strange night in the Windy City. In some innings, he looked really good, and in some he looked really bad.

In the first, Daniel Murphy (who else) doubled to lead off the inning. Javier Baez singled after him but got picked off. Murphy later scored on a RBI single by Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist followed with a single. Sydnergaard struck out Jason Heyward and got Wilson Contreras to popup to end the inning.

Syndergaard responded with a quick and easy second inning. However, he faced more trouble in the third. The righty had two-outs and runners on the corners, but gave up three runs thanks to a wild pitch, an infield single, and a two run single to Jon Lester.

He rebounded to pitch a 1-2-3 fourth and fifth innings which allowed him to pitch the sixth inning. In the sixth, he also retired the side rather quickly.

His final line was: 6 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 6 K. Definitely not great but considering some of the implosions we have seen from Mets starters, it could have been worse.

In the seventh, Jerry Blevins gave up three straight hits, two of them coming to lefties. He did not record an out. Drew Smith came in to a tight spot and somehow limited the damage to just one additional run. He also struck out two of the guys to face him.

Daniel Zamora pitched the eighth inning, and struck out both Murphy and Baez, but gave up a long solo homer to Rizzo.

Offense

In the first, Amed Rosario singled and stole two bases. He then came around to score on Austin Jackson‘s RBI single.

In the second, Michael Conforto hit a 472-foot homer to center. Later in the inning after walks to Kevin Plawecki and Syndergaard, Rosario singled in a run.

In the seventh with the Mets down a run, Kevin Plawecki homered to tie the game.

Rosario reached base three times in the game, once thanks to an error. Conforto also walked on top of that mammoth homer.

Tomorrow

Jacob deGrom will continue his Cy Young chase against Cole Hamels and the Cubs. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 pm at Wrigley.
