Mickey Callaway spoke to reporters before the game and said that Jay Bruce is likely to be activated from the disabled list ahead of Friday night’s contest against the division-rival Washington Nationals, as detailed by Colin Stephenson of Newsday.

“I talked to him this morning. He feels like his timing is getting there. His feet feel great, his back feels great, so he’s in a really good spot, physically. He is going to play first base tonight and if that goes well, he’ll fly in and meet us tomorrow and be activated on Friday.’’

Well, it’s the ninth inning of the St. Lucie Mets’ game as we speak, and Bruce is 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI while also having played first base.

Bruce, 31, is 9-for-25 with a home run, double, walk, and two RBI in seven rehab games, all which have taken place with St. Lucie.

Before going down with the hip injury, Bruce was struggling in the first year of a three-year, $39 million contract as he was hitting a mere .212/.292/.321 with three home runs and 17 RBI in 62 games.
