According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, New York Mets outfielder Michael Conforto will be the designated hitter in the team’s major league spring game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.
Conforto has hit three home runs over the last two days in minor league games and played seven innings in center field on Thursday as he works his way back from shoulder surgery.

Michael Conforto hit for the cycle in his first four at-bats and played seven innings in the field in a minor-league game today in Port St. Lucie according to Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News.
That makes it three home runs in the last two days for the rehabbing outfielder after hitting two on Wednesday afternoon.
Conforto, 25, is currently working his way back from a surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder, suffered in a game last August.
The original timetable for his return was projected as May 1, but with him playing virtually daily at this point, we could see Conforto even sooner.
Before his injury last season, Michael Conforto was slashing .279/.384/.555 with 27 home runs and 68 RBI, and 20 doubles. He was named to his first career All-Star team and was on an even loftier pace.
Mets’ officials have said that Conforto will not be with the team when they break camp, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The team is surely hoping to see him back in Flushing as soon as possible though.
His performance today in PSL is a good indicator of things being right on track.
