
The Washington Nationals have announced that Dusty Baker will not be the team’s manager in 2018.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Baker won’t be back against the wishes of GM Mike Rizzo.
The Nationals also announced that the entire coaching staffs contracts have expired and that they will work with the new manager to build a new staff.
Baker, 68, went 192-132 in two seasons as the Nationals manager in the regular season winning back-to-back National League East titles. However, the Nationals lost in the division series in both seasons.
This past season the Nationals went 97-65 to win the East then lost in the division series to the Chicago Cubs.
Overall, Baker is 1863-1636 (.532 winning percentage) as a major league manager in the regular season but has gone only 23-32 (.418 winning percentage) in the playoffs.
His 1836 wins are the 14th most in major league history and ten more than Bruce Bochy for the most among active managers.
since moving to Washington, the Nationals have had six managers (seven including interim) in 13 years.
