The Boston Red Sox are under fire after Major League Baseball officials determined they have recently stole signs from the New York Yankees and several other teams, the New York Times reports.
While stealing signs has been present in baseball for years, the Red Sox were doing it in a high-tech manner, using an Apple Watch to communicate the stolen signs.
The issue was spearheaded by general manager Brian Cashman a few weeks ago in a lengthy complaint submitted to the commissioner’s office.
Boston’s training staff was reportedly caught on camera using the Apple Watch and relaying signals to players during the investigation.
The Red Sox fired back, however, by saying that the Yankees have stolen signs by getting them from YES Network feeds of the game.
It is unclear as of right now what the penalties will be from commissioner Rob Manfred for the Red Sox stealing signs.
