After Robert Gsellman‘s rough performance against the Nationals on Saturday where he was touched up for six runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out one, the right-hander was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas.
In a corresponding move, the Mets activated Seth Lugo off the 10-day disabled list in time for his start Sunday in the second leg of a day/night double header.
Additionally, reliever Kevin McGowan will be with the team as the 26th man for the doubleheader Sunday. He has appeared in just one game for New York this season, going 1 1/3 innings, allowing one run.
Gsellman cannot return to the big league club until after Vegas’ season ends on Sept. 4.
