The Mets (38-42) won their fourth game in a row as they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies (26-53) 7-6 at Citi Field on Saturday afternoon.
Pitching
Zack Wheeler struggled in his return from the disabled list. Wheeler threw 88 pitches over 3.2 innings and allowed two unearned runs on two hits while walking two and striking out four. He just didn’t have his command tonight as he was all over the place.
The Mets bullpen wasn’t able to pick up Wheeler as Erik Goeddel allowed a run on two hits over 1.1 innings. Fernando Salas then recorded a scoreless inning, but allowed a three-run home run in his second inning of work.
After the offense picked up Salas and retook the lead, Paul Sewald struck out two batters before a 57 minute rain delay.
After the rain delay, Addison Reed stuck out Freddy Galvis to end the eighth. Reed worked around a leadoff double in the ninth to record his fourteenth save of the season.
Hitting
Jose Reyes has showed some positive signs at the plate, lining a pair of doubles. However, Reyes made a pair of outs on the bases; getting picked off second and hesitating advancing on a ground ball.
Lucas Duda had two hits, including his fourteenth home run of the season.
T.J. Rivera inched the Mets closer in the seventh with his third home run of the season. Wilmer Flores drove in another run bringing home Travis d’Arnaud with a single. Asdrubal Cabrera then capped off the rally with a go-ahead two run home run, reminiscent of the night that inspired his bobble head.
Up Next
The Mets look to secure the series sweep as they send Rafael Montero to the mound tomorrow afternoon. Nick Pivetta will be on the mound for the Phillies with first pitch scheduled for 1:10 PM.
