Mets starting pitcher Matt Harvey was removed from last night’s game after 5.2 effective innings. Don’t worry, his arm is fine, as it’s his hamstring that curtailed his evening.
Harvey’s hamstring tightened up after he covered first base on a ground ball, not while actually pitching. Before he was injured, though, Harvey continued to show signs of his old self, throwing up to 97 mph a few times but mostly sitting in the 93-95 mph range.
“I ran over and took my last step and it just kind of cramped up on me a little bit. It’s nothing serious,” Harvey said after the game.
Terry Collins described the injury as a “cramp” and neither he or Harvey himself have any doubt whatsoever that he will be able to make his next start. He was relieved by Hansel Robles who was perfect over 1.1 innings, striking out two.
In 5.2 innings, Harvey allowed two earned runs on five hits (one home run) and one walk with six strikeouts. He threw 92 pitches (61 strikes).
