In an impressive show of strength, Yoenis Cespedes crushed three home runs at Citizen’s Bank Park last night in the Mets’ 14-4 rout of the Phillies. The first was a three-run moonshot to dead center field and the second two were solo bombs down the left field line. He finished with five RBIs.

Cespedes had three taters through the first five innings but was unable to hit another one for the rest of the game. He did hit a frozen-rope double to center field for his fourth extra base hit of the day, so while people were disappointed not to see another long ball, they weren’t totally let down.

Terry Collins wasn’t surprised, saying to reporters after the game, “Did you see him in BP? He was hitting them out like a driving range.”

With this performance, Cespedes becomes the first Met in franchise history to have two games with at least four extra base hits. He also becomes the first Met in franchise history to hit three dingers in a game twice.

For those of you who care about such things, here are the exit velocities for Cespedes’ three round-trippers:

  1. 105.2 mph
  2. 109.3 mph
  3. 108.3 mph

Lastly, his 14 total bases last night ranks third among Mets hitters all time. Second is also Cespedes with 15 on August 21st, 2015, and in first place is Edgardo Alfonzo‘s 16 total bases which he tallied during a six-hit performance on August 30th, 1999.
