
According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the qualifying offer this offseason will be set at $17.2 million. That figure is up from the $15.8 million QO last year. Rosenthal also notes that the qualifying offer system is expected to stay through the new CBA with some possible adjustments being made to it.
The Mets have to decide whether they will extend a qualifying offer to second baseman Neil Walker who is coming off carer high .823 OPS but back surgery as well. The deadline for the Mets to give Walker the offer is five days after the completion of the World Series.
Daniel Murphy was one of a record 20 major league players that were extended qualifying offers in 2015. Of course, he didn’t accept the offer giving the Mets the 31st overall pick in the 2016 draft, which they used on UCONN lefty Anthony Kay.
