The New York Mets (81-72) defeated the Philadelphia Phillies (69-84) by a score of 9-8 in 11 innings tonight at Citi Field!
Pitching:
The first three innings were smooth sailing for Mets starter Seth Lugo tonight, as he kept the Phillies at bay.
However, the fourth and fifth were a bit rocky. With the Mets up 2-0 at the time, Lugo allowed a sacrifice fly in the fourth to cut the lead in half.
Then in the fifth, Ryan Howard and Cameron Rupp went back-to-back off Lugo to give the Phillies their first lead of the night.
The Mets took the lead in the seventh, but the Phillies answered back with a three-run shot off the bat of Maikel Franco off of Addison Reed in the eighth.
In what was truly a seesaw affair, the Mets managed to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, but in his second inning of work, Jeurys Familia surrendered two runs to make it 8-6 Phillies.
Familia got let off the hook, luckily, as the Mets rallied yet again in the eleventh!

Offense:
After T.J. Rivera singled to lead off the second, Curtis Granderson slammed his 29th homer of the year, a two-run bomb to right.
The Phillies took the lead in the fifth, but the Mets were able to tie the game right back up on a single from Yoenis Cespedes, after two men got on and a wild pitch was thrown.
Cespedes struck again in the seventh, driving in the go-ahead run on a double that drove in Asdrubal Cabrera.
With the Mets down yet again in the ninth, Jose Reyes launched a two-run homer to tie the game.
This, however, was not the most exciting part of this game. Asdrubal Cabrera, who has just been so good, hit a walk-off, three-run shot to win it for the Amazins in the bottom og the 11th innings!
On deck:
Gabriel Ynoa (1-0, 9.00 ERA) takes on Jeremy Hellickson (12-9, 3.57 ERA) tomorrow night at Citi Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.
