The Mets (4-6) were defeated by the Cleveland Indians (5-4) this afternoon at Progressive Field by a score of 7-5.

Pitching:

Matt Harvey got off to a stellar start, striking out the side in the first, and carrying a perfect game into the fifth inning.

However, the wheels fell off for Harvey after his strong start, as he was chased from the game in the sixth inning after allowing five runs on six hits.

Rafael Montero came in with the bases loaded and two gone in the sixth, and recorded a king size out to prevent the Indians from throwing any more gas on the fire.

The seventh inning wasn’t nearly as kind to Montero, though, as the Indians tacked on two more runs to gain a commanding 7-1 lead at the time.

Offense:

The Mets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on the strength of a lead-off homer courtesy of Curtis Granderson, his first of the young campaign.

The Mets looked to build on their lead the next two innings, as they had runners in scoring position but failed to score, which has become a reoccurring theme so far this season.

In the sixth inning after Indians starter Josh Tomlin was removed due to injury, David Wright rudely greeted Jeff Manship with a bomb to left field that was inches away from being a long ball.

Wright was hustling out of the box, but was thrown out at second due to a great read off the wall by Jose Ramirez.

In the eighth inning, the Mets cut the deficit to 7-5 with home run contributions from Yoenis Cespedes and Neil Walker.

It wouldn’t prove to be enough, however, as Indians closer Cody Allen recorded a four out save to seal the win.

On deck:

The Mets will look to take the rubber game tomorrow afternoon, as Steven Matz (0-1, 37.80 ERA) takes on Corey Kluber (0-2, 4.85 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM.
