Well the Mets broke out of their hitting slump last night! Both the Indians and the Mets had 14 hits last night as the Mets were just able to hold on after a mini-meltdown in the 9th inning to win 6-5. The big headline for the Mets were homers by Walker, De Aza, Cespedes and Conforto which led to the Mets tripling their 2016 homer count in one game. The Mets also had two players tagged out at the plate, so the lead could have been potentially larger.

Bartolo Colon earned his 219th career win last night, tying Pedro Martinez for the second most among Dominican-born pitchers. Juan Marichal ranks first with 243 wins. Martinez said via twitter: “Very proud of you Bartolo. Well done!”

The Mets will turn to Matt Harvey today to try to reign in the Cleveland hitting machine and Matt Harvey will hope to be more like Matt Harvey. He’s 0-2 on the season over 11.2 innings allowing 14 hits, 7 runs, 6 earned while walking 4 and striking out only 5. This is an incredibly small sample size, but right now his WHIP is over .5 points higher than last year, and K/9 is down 6 while his BB/9 is doubled. However one good start erases all of this. He has never faced the Indians before, but a few of them have faced him as members of other teams:

  • Uribe 2-6 (who had 1 hit on the season going into last night, and then decided to decimate the Mets)
  • Byrd 1-3
  • Detwiler 0-1 (as a reliever in the American League, super unlikely he faces Harvey tonight)

The Mets bats will look to keep last night going against Josh Tomlin who is making his first start of 2016. Last year he was 7-2 over 10 games and 65.2 innings with a 3.02 ERA and 57 strikeouts. This will be his first time facing the Mets in his career (which is not surprising during interleague play) however several players on the Mets have seen while they were with other teams:

  • De Aza 3-11, 2B, HR
  • Granderson 2-7
  • Cespedes 0-3
  • Walker 1-3

Let’s Go Mets!
