Matz Slated To Start Tuesday For Triple-A Las Vegas

Starting pitching reinforcements are on their way, as Mets left-hander Steven Matz will jump to Triple-A Las Vegas for his next rehab start.

Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News tweets that catcher Travis d’Arnaud will remain with the 51s to catch Matz on Tuesday.

Matz, 26 at the end of the month, has yet to log an inning at the big league level this season after suffering an injury to his pitching arm in Spring Training.

The southpaw pitched for Single-A St. Lucie on Thursday, tossing three innings while allowing one run on two hits.

After Tommy Milone struggled mightily in Sunday afternoon’s loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, having Matz back would be a huge upgrade to the state of the Mets rotation.

Right-hander Seth Lugo is right on Matz’s heels as he works his way back from a partially torn UCL that he suffered in April.

Lugo appeared in the same game for St. Lucie on Thursday and matched Matz’s performance with 3 2/3 clean innings of his own.
