MMO Fan Shot: If It Sounds Like A Duck And Walks Like A Duck…
It’s all about the money! Seems everyone is convinced that not making an offer to Jose Reyes is the smart play. I question that thinking because an offer not made is merely an offer that can not be accepted, Nothing more. If the fear is another team is going to outbid you well they are going to do that on the very first dollar offered so all you really managed to accomplish is ensure that [...]

No Panic
I had thought before the all-star break that the Mets had a realistic shot at taking over first place in the division with a 3-game deficit against the first-place Braves. Of course, that didn’t turn out as planned and we limped into the break 4 games back. Now, with the Mets 1-5 on their western swing and in danger of falling way out of the race by the time they come home, I offer you [...]

Looking Just a Few Days Ahead
The Mets are going to be playing for first place this weekend. Not against the Phillies, but against a resurgent Braves team that is making it feel like the early part of the decade when these two teams were battling for NL East dominance. And if Jonathan Niese and the Mets can take the rubber game against the Reds tonight, it won’t matter what the Braves do in Philly–the Mets will be 1 or 2 [...]

Even I’m Starting To Believe
Most of you who read my words on here each week know that I have a healthy dose of skepticism and cynicism when it comes to these Mets. But while I’m not about to start sending “Ya gotta believe!” messages like one of my buddies does even when the Mets lose a bunch of games in a row, it’s hard not to believe there is something magical going on here. First of all, while we [...]

Nothing Beats Beating Philly
I have to admit I was a bit frightened by the schedule when I saw the Mets having to face the Yankees and Phillies back to back. Sure, they would be home, where they have a stellar record (17-9 as of today), but they were facing the two teams that met in the World Series seven months ago. Taking two of three from the Yanks was nice, but RA Dickey baffling the Phils with his [...]

It Will Take 5 Years Until We Are Competitive
How would we feel if we were told this by the Mets front office? It’s become very evident over the last several seasons our loyalty has been tested. This team and management has displayed a total lack of direction and focus. We fans have sat on the sidelines and continually pointed fingers and placed blame at everyone and everything. We have no swagger. We don’t play with confidence. We have no starting pitching. We have [...]

Road Woes, Last Place Mets and My Take on Greatest Announcers
Forgive the random thoughts here, folks, but I thought it was easier today to touch on a few things rather than elaborate on one thing. The Mets continued their road woes last night with a 3-2 loss to the Braves, and are now 5-13 away from home, and 14-8 at Citi Field. Last year, they were 41-40 at home and 29-52 on the road, so it’s a pattern that has continued. Back in the ’80′s, [...]

Leave it to the Phillies
Leave it to the Phillies to temper our expectations. Admittedly, I’m an avid fan of the Mets and Giants, so my hatred of the Phillies and Eagles and Philadelphia fans in general is bordering on unhealthy. But one thing is for sure….the Phillies are damn good, and they kind of woke up the Mets and us fans in a big way this past weekend. Riding an eight game winning streak, including a series opening thumping [...]

Are Mets Becoming The Forgotten Stepchild?
Folks, I don’t live in New York anymore, and haven’t since 1992. Sure, I can get all my Mets news online and I can watch and listen to games online or on cable. But nothing beats living there–the talk, the camaraderie, the print newspapers that you can read with two hands and two eyes (unless you’re Muno from Yo Gabba Gabba). So sometimes I feel disconnected and rely on friends or my dad to fill [...]

I May Be Bitter and Jaded, But….
I’ve always been a Mets fan. Well, since around 1970 or so…that’s as far back as I can remember. So even though many of you have read my work on there the last six-eight months about how frustrated and annoyed I am with the way the team has played and the direction they have gone in with personnel, a new season is upon us and optimism reigns supreme. Let’s face it, every baseball fan loves [...]
