Last night was just another example of Mike Pelfrey being Mike Pelfrey. After cruising through the San Diego lineup for the first five innings allowing just one run, it all came crashing down on the right-hander in the sixth. The 27-year-old allowed three runs on four sharply hit balls and a sac fly. The Amazin’s so called “ace” left after 6 1/3 yielding 9 hits, allowing 4 runs (all earned), 2 walks, while striking out 4, against a lackluster […]
It has been reported that New York Mets pitcher Johan Santana had undergone an examination that revealed that he was suffering fatigue in his surgically repaired left shoulder. Santana will not resume throwing until his symptoms subside. However, Santana will continue to exercise and do some other baseball activities. Everything else during the exam was deemed to be normal by doctors at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Santana had made a rehab start on July […]
With the Mets 7 1/2 games behind the wild card leading Atlanta Braves, but still having two months to go in the season, I’m not one to give up and give in concerning the Amazin’s playoff chances here in 2011. After the trade of closer Francisco Rodriguez the night of the All-Star game, and then just a few short weeks later with the trade of the resurgent Carlos Beltran many saw this as this team […]
In Monday night’s thrilling 4-2 defeat of the Reds, we were reminded yet again just how much Daniel Murphy has evolved as a hitter. With his two doubles, including his two-run scoring double in the 7th, Murphy now sits just four doubles behind teammate Carlos Beltran for the National League lead. Quietly, the young 26-year-old utility man has become one of the best overall hitters in the National League here in 2011. Murphy remained red-hot last night and picked up […]
Sitting back and reflecting on Carlos Beltran’s time with the New York Mets, two moments immediately come to mind. One is of sheer excitement. The other, of sheer disappointment and disbelief. In 2000, the last time that the Mets had made the playoffs before they signed Carlos Beltran, I was just 9 years of age. I was beginning to understand the game of baseball. I understood most parts of the game, but didn’t understand much […]
Given that outfielder Carlos Beltran is all but guaranteed to be moved at some point here before the July 31st non-waiver trading deadline, the return of David Wright to the Mets lineup tonight is huge to say the least. For much of the season the 34-year-old Beltran has been the Amazin’s leader both on and off the field. Carlos has taken to mentoring the likes of the younger players on this team including Angel Pagan, […]
I had the pleasure of welcoming former New York Met and the recently retired Frank Catalanotto to my show Mets Talk Live! Wright or Wrong?!? yesterday. For those of you who do not know, Frank is a class act, and it was a real pleasure and a treat to converse with the Smithtown, NY native. Here are just a few of the topics I discussed in the interview with Frank: – His playing days with the Mets – […]
With the news breaking that All-Star Shortstop Jose Reyes would run Sunday, which he did, and then fly to Brooklyn today for a rehab game with the Cyclones – it’s just what the doctor ordered for the Mets. Right now the Mets are on thin ice, they stand 8 1/2 games behind the wild card leading Atlanta Braves, who like the Philadelphia Phillies just don’t seem to lose, making it difficult for the Mets to make up any […]
The New York Mets have been without their ace Johan Santana the entire season and the rotation has held their own, to say the least. With speculation surrounding a Santana return possibly in mid-August, which still remains a long shot at this point, many have wondered just who may be the odd man out in the rotation? Well all the speculation and rumors may have just been ended before they had a serious chance to […]
