Projecting Triple-A Las Vegas Rotation: Are Gorski and Familia Officially Out?
Adam Rubin of ESPN New York took to Twitter a short while ago and began posting his projections for the Mets Triple-A roster. Included in his Las Vegas 51′s rotation he has: Zack Wheeler, Aaron Laffey, Collin McHugh, Chris Schwinden and Carlos Torres. A month ago I projected the rotation as follows: Zack Wheeler Collin McHugh Mark Cohoon Darin Gorski Aaron Laffey That was what I had once I removed Mejia, who has been shutdown [...]

Was Matt den Dekker In Line For A Roster Spot With The Mets?
At this point, I think everyone knows that I am a Matt den Dekker fan. I’ve argued in his favor since early spring training, when he leaped through the St. Lucie night and pulled a would-be home run from beyond the left-centerfield wall. Many Mets fans never knew who den Dekker was until that moment. That catch brought him into the limelight. But maybe it was just one catch, people thought. If you’ve read the scouting [...]

Tuff Stuff: Infield Defense and the Son Also Rises
ESPN New York’s Mark Simon got a chance to talk to Mets third base coach Tim Teufel, and the two of them discussed the team’s infield defense. I highlighted what Teufel had to say about some of the Mets infielders, but you should check out the entire article here. UZR & Defensive Metrics “I embrace them. Any time we can use measurements to help us in our coaching, I’m willing to look at it. I [...]

Mets Announce Rotation, Elvin Ramirez Traded For Cash
Reliever Elvin Ramirez has been traded to the Los Angeles Angels for cash considerations to free up a spot on their 40 Man Roster. That they got anything for him is a mind-blower to me. His 5.48 ERA in 20 MLB appearances will hardly be missed. This one was the easiest cut/trade/release of all. The Mets’ 40-man roster now stands at 38. In other Mets news, the team announced their rotation today. Jon Niese will start Opening Day against the Padres, followed [...]

Baseball America Ranks Mets Farm System No. 16
Baseball America’s Jim Callis had hinted in a chat a couple of months ago that the Mets farm system would be ranked somewhere around 16-18 which many found too low. Well today, Baseball America released their 2013 Organizational Rankings and the Mets did come in at No. 16. Here’s the top 16 overall: 1. St. Louis Cardinals 2. Seattle Mariners 3. Texas Rangers 4. Tampa Bay Rays 5. Miami Marlins 6. Boston Red Sox 7. [...]

Mets Are Not Being Cheap, They Are Being Smart On Wheeler
There are two no-brainers in place for the Mets with their latest injury news. The first was the slam-dunk Shaun Marcum would be injured. The surprise was it happened before the team broke camp, but considering the shape he reported in, well, maybe not so much. The second is the inevitable early clamor for the Mets to promote prospect Zack Wheeler, which should be an emphatic NO WAY.Manager Terry Collins told reporters today in Port St. Lucie, but he has [...]

Read My Lips… No Zack Wheeler In April…
Updated at 4:30 PM Okay, well nobody actually said that, but I thought it made for a great title… However, in case you were wondering about it, perish the thought… Terry Collins just said that Zack Wheeler will not be considered as a replacement for Shaun Marcum in the rotation and will not pitch for the Mets at all in April. “His ultimate promotion will have nothing to do with other injuries and they don’t think [...]

The Great Divide: Where We Are Going and Where We Are
If there’s one thing I can say about Mets fans if I were to use Twitter as the barometer, you could slice the entire fan base down the middle and the divisions are quite clear. In the past 12 months, when anyone asked me to describe the state of the Mets fan base, my reply would always be this: So color me surprised when I came across some of the comments made by general manager Sandy Alderson [...]

Who Were the Biggest Winners and Losers for the Mets This Spring?
Clayton – Collin Cowgill is the biggest winner. The guy has yet to see a single pitch for the Mets in the regular season and he already has the number and comparison to a Mets great, not to mention most likely a starting outfield job. My loser is Johan Santana. It could have just as easily been Captain Kirk or Frank Francisco, but when R.A. Dickey was traded, everyone in the baseball world knew the [...]

Special Feature: Saluting The 1973 Mets; The Start Of A Series
MAYS: ENDURING IMAGE OF A FORGOTTEN TEAM The Mets have made four World Series appearances, with each of those seasons and Octobers giving us cherished memories. But, only one – the nearly forgotten 1973 team, with the still memorable rallying cry of “Ya Gotta Believe,’’ – identifies with the tumultuous ride this franchise has been on since its birth as the replacement child for the kids New York really loved – the Dodgers and Giants. [...]
