Mets Mauled By Rockies; Disappointing Trip Ends
The road trip that began with a stumble in Philadelphia mercifully ended with a fall this afternoon in freezing Denver. The Mets left Citi Field at 4-2 and will arrive home tomorrow at 7-7. After losing two of three to the Phillies, the Mets won two in Minnesota in brutal conditions, then lost three games in Colorado, including today’s 11-3 mauling of Jon Niese, and of course, the bullpen. ON THE MOUND: Niese was not [...]

The Perils of the Poison Pen and the Promise of Tomorrow
Jon Niese gets credit for a quality start according to those stats… As for the others? Well this, my friends, is where our story begins… Behold the Mets’ poison pen and embrace the horror… Josh Edgin has a 9.75 ERA and his fastball is slowing down in velocity by the day. The situation with him is nearing a panic level. Scott Atchison couldn’t get an out and allowed three earned runs to cross the plate. [...]

Jonathon Livingston Niese
The other day I noticed my kid was reading this book that I recognized from when I was around his age. Jonathan Livingston Seagull, by Richard Bach. The short novel about the transcendent ascension of a seagull who refused to be confined by the boundaries of his own defining limitations. He flew higher, faster, until he became a kind of zen master of flight and was even able to teleport if I recall. Like most [...]

Mets Photo Gallery and Video From Target Field
Early afternoon at Target Field. Jon Niese taking an early jog around the the park. Terry Collins and Sandy Alderson watching batting practice at Target Field. Marlon Byrd is waiting for his turn to take some hacks. None of the players goof off whenever Jay Horwitz is close by. Justin Turner says, “Hey you’re Metsmerized… I know you guys!” Sandy glares right at me and says, ”There’s those crazy guys from MMO again.” Here is a [...]

Who Are to Blame For Mets Early Woes?
A buddy of mine asked me recently, when was I going to put out an article on how Ike Davis is killing the Mets with his at-bats and his inability to hit left handed pitchers and I kind of thought about it at first, because I didn’t feel that Ike warranted an article solely blaming him for the Mets inconsistencies. I feel that there are other guys that just haven’t gotten it going yet and [...]

Mets Matters: Amazins’ Hit The Road With Hope, Harvey vs Strasburg Matchup Looming
Fast starts can lead to expectations. After opening the season with wins in consecutive series over San Diego and Miami, it is way to soon to consider the Mets a General Electric type behemoth. But, there is some juice here, enough to where there is some light. The Mets began the season with little hope of cracking last year’s 74 victories, but the first week created a sense there might be something to the summer [...]

3 Up & 3 Down: The Walk-Off Win Edition
The Mets concluded the weekend series against the stripped down Miami Marlins with a big walk-off win on Sunday afternoon. The opening homestand ends with the Mets going 4-2 winning both series! Here are this weekend’s 3 Ups and 3 Downs. Byrd’s Big Hit: Marlon Byrd was the hero Sunday afternoon with a walk-off base hit scoring Ruben Tejada and Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Tejeda was hit by a pitch, Nieuwenhuis then laced a single. Good aggressive [...]

MMO Mets Wrap: Niese, Bullpen Sharp In Win Over Miami
Opening Day was impressive, but today might have been the Mets’ most complete victory in this young season. Jon Niese gave the Mets their fifth straight strong start, the offense came from behind twice and the often-criticized bullpen shut the door on the Miami Marlins in a 7-3 victory in a sparsely crowded Citi Field. That answers the question: If the Mets win in an empty ballpark does it still count? It does, and the [...]
