Rust? What rust? David Wright had sort of a triumphant return last night as the Mets beat the Phillies 6-4 in the opening game of their weekend series. Wright had terrific night at the plate and showed no rust from his seven week layoff going 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored. What was amazing about his return was that Wright played in no rehab games in between his injury and his […]
The Mets have announced that David Wright will be activated from the 15-Day Disabled List prior to tonight’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Wright has been on the disabled list since August 3rd with a grade two tight hamstring strain. The Mets’ captain has hit 17 home runs at Citizens Bank Park during his career, the second-most in any visiting ballpark. (He has connected on 18 home runs at Atlanta’s Turner Field) Wright also has […]
MLB.com reports that the Phillies placed Roy Halladay on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of inflammation in his right shoulder. Philadelphia recalled left-hander Joe Savery to temporarily take Halladay’s place on the 25-man roster. A replacement for Halladay’s spot in the starting rotation will be named before Friday’s game in Arizona against the Diamondbacks. Candidates to make the start include Triple-A left-hander Adam Morgan and right-hander Tyler Cloyd. After allowing nine runs in 2 […]
I cringed as Domonic Brown’s three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning disappeared deep into the stands at Citizens Bank Park last night. Phillies 5, Mets 0 before we even blinked. But then I realized that Citizens Bank Park is band box, and one or two big swings would get the Mets right back in the game. Sure enough, homers from the red-hot John Buck and Lucas Duda made it a 5-2 […]
Aside from Marlon Byrd, who is batting .269 on the young season, the rest of the Mets outfielders are all in a big rut at the plate. Worst among them is Oakland A’s import Collin Cowgill who is batting .130 after another 0-for-4 showing last night against left-hander Cliff Lee. Cowgill, who was initially proclaimed the everyday center fielder before the season began, has now been relegated to a platoon role against southpaws only and […]
