Remember Nick Evans? He was a healthy scratch from the lineup for AA-Binghamton leading Adam Rubin to believe he may soon be joining the Mets. On Wednesday, Mets manager Jerry Manuel indicated that he wanted a right handed batter on the bench in anticipation of the Braves series that starts today. Evans, 24, is having a solid bounce-back season and is hitting .290/.363/.518 with 24 doubles, 15 home runs and 46 RBI in 303 AB for Binghamton. Evans has progressed […]
Anthony McCarron of the Daily News is reporting that the Mets recalled left handed reliever Raul Valdes from Triple-A Buffalo and that he will be available for tonight’s game. Valdes was 0-1 with a 3.68 ERA in 29.1 innings pitched this season. To make room for Valdes, Fernando Tatis was placed on the 15-day DL with a sprained right shoulder. The Mets said Tatis will undergo further testing at the Hospital for Special Surgery tomorrow. Jerry […]
Carlos Beltran continues to do well while playing rehab games in the Florida State League for St. Lucie. Last night, Beltran was 2-4 with an RBI and played all nine innings in centerfield and even made a diving catch. After the game Beltran spoke to reporters: “I feel better and better everyday,” Beltran said after the game. “Since I have began playing in games, I have not held back. I have played hard, the way the game […]
** Latest Update Monday, 4:30 PM ** Mets top pitching prospect Jenrry Mejia has been diagnosed with a strain in his right rotator cuff. Rarely, if ever, has a team gone from 92 losses in a season to over 90 victories and a World Championship the following year. That is, however, what all Mets fans are fantasizing about for 2010. And with the way the Mets have played in June, expectations have risen, and demands on the team and management to play better and improve the roster have grown. What’s happening is a good thing. Fans are excited again […]
Yesterday, there were several reports circulating that Bobby Valentine was leaving his job at ESPN and had reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with the Florida Marlins. It was further reported that Valentine would debut as the Marlins manager on Monday when the Fish meet the Mets in San Juan, Puerto Rico to open a three-game series. Valentine is expected to replace Fredi Gonzalez who was fired as Marlins manager on Wednesday and replaced by interim manager Edwin Rodriguez. However, the Palm Beach Post […]
How’s that for a sight for sore eyes? Last night, Port St. Lucie natives Larry and Dora Licastri were nice enough to share pictures and give us a great account of each of Carlos Beltran’s plate appearances from his first rehab game in Florida. They are two of the biggest and coolest Mets fans I know, and you can follow Larry on Facebook and see all of his great Mets pics including more of Beltran. Beltran […]
So I was doing my mornings due diligence and reading the various storylines across the blogosphere about our Metsies and came across an interesting tidbit via MLB Traderumors.com from Ben Nicholson-Smith. Ben had linked to a story by Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times. Baker asserts that the Mets are frontrunners along with Minnesota to acquire Cliff Lee in a package for Jennry Mejia and Angel Pagan. I hope this rumor is just that, a rumor. […]
According to Andy Martino of the Daily News via Twitter, John Maine received the second opinion on his shoulder today and it was confirmed there is no structural damage. He does have fairly serious shoulder tendinitis and he’s gonna have to shut it down for awhile. The Mets also released a statement saying that Maine, Omar Minaya, Jerry Manuel and Dan Warthen will sit down soon to ‘develop a plan going forward.’ Last week several sources […]
