Santana Won’t Be On Hand To Receive His Award At B.A.T. Dinner Tonight

johan santana no-hitter

Johan Santana will not be on hand tonight at the annual B.A.T. Dinner to receive his award. Santana was being honored for his financial support and generosity to the organization.

He sent out the following statement this morning, that he would not be able to attend.

“I was deeply honored to receive such a prestigious award from B.A.T.  B.A.T is a cause I’ve long supported since being in the majors and one I will continue to support. Unfortunately, however, I will not be able to attend Tuesday’s dinner because I’m still in Venezuela trying to complete the paperwork for the construction of the baseball and soccer stadium in my hometown of Tovar. Again, my apologies on not being there and my congratulations to all the honorees.”

He’ll be honored at one charity event while participating in another – that’s how Johan rolls. It just goes to show the level of his character and integrity off the field. Santana left an indelible mark on the organization last season by pitching the first no-hitter in franchise history.

  • Prediction—-Santana’s 2013 record: 11-5 with a 2.98 ERA

  • I would sign for that now BUT I actually feel he’ll win more. I say 15 wins.

  • Injuries did him in, makign the contract not worth the record, but i’d do that deal ANY DAY of the week. Hopefully he pitches well enough to maybe get traded to bring in a B or who knows, even an A prospect for us.. Good humanitarian, good guy and great pitcher.

    • Stop being so negative. lol

  • You can say what you want about his salary, if it’s worth it, his injuries and lack of success since coming here (not really due to his effort but other circumstances)

But I can’t say I regret having him, watching him, paying him at all…

He was a great player to have and I’m glad we made him a met….

Too bad this is the last year we will get to see him pitch as a Met….

    • If Santana has an injury free season and wins 15 games, ERA under 3.00, 190+ IP, would you offer him a two year deal for $15 million total to stay assuming he’d take it?

      • I Might depending on how good he looked over those 190+ innings….
Wins wouldn’t really be a big factor because you can’t win alone….
If he has an ERA under 4 and at those prices I would definitly consider it!

Don’t think Sandy would but then again I’m not Sandy…LOL

  • Everything Metsie said plus I would want know how some of the youngster are developing. Johan just has that intensity that I’m sure could really serve some if the younger guys. He’s an absolute Pro.
