Mets Remove Justin Hampson From 40-Man, Opts For Free Agency

Justin Hampson

Mets lefty reliever Justin Hampson has been removed from the team’s 40-man roster and has opted for free agency. Hampson, 32, appeared in 13 games with the Mets in 2012, his first major league action since his time with the Padres in 2008. The Mets southpaw had a seriously good season in Triple-A Buffalo where he appeared in 51 games and pitched to a 2.33 ERA while striking out 59 batters and walking just 22. [...]

Teams Not Showing Interest In Ricciardi and DePo For GM Jobs

sandy-alderson-paul-depodesta-j-p-ricciardi-2010-11-16-19-0-14

I was inspired to write my thoughts on something that has been like an itch I couldn’t reach on my back. You know what I mean? Aren’t those a real pain in the asterisk? I saw a post by Matt at MetsBlog that says Backman and Geren have not been mentioned in manager searches. (Yes, I know, it’s a slow Mets news week). Anyway, it reminded me of a debate on one of our threads last week, where several [...]

5 Bold Predictions For The 2013 Mets

Instead of worrying about winning baseball games, this it the type of nonsense the Mets concern themselves with?

This might be the third or fourth time that I take issue with something I read on Bleacher Report and replied with a counter-post or a reaction post. I’m sorry, but they make it way too easy. My latest quibble was with today’s post entitled: 5 Bold Predictions for the New York Mets’ Offseason With a title like that, I couldn’t wait to open it up and see all these bold predictions. I am as [...]

MMO Mailbag: Should We Target Toronto’s Travis d’Arnaud?

Travis d’Arnaud

We received this email from one of our readers, doekie. Let’s assume nothing will be done and the arbitration players will be back. Shoppach will be back and some kind of right handed OF. I liked your thoughts on the Rockies and Mets trade. How about Toronto? Their lineup could use some lefthanded hitters. And they also need starters. So what would you guys think of a trade involving Murphy (as a lefthanded 2B and 3B back [...]

Valdespin Playing Right Field During Winter Ball, What It Means For The Mets

jordany valdespin

Adam Rubin of ESPN tweeted yesterday that Jordany Valdespin would be playing right field in the Dominican Winter League. This went against what most believed – that Valdespin would be playing second base this winter. I recently did an end of the year review for Valdespin on another Mets website, so this is the perfect time for me to share my perspective on what this means for the Mets in 2013. My Thoughts on Valdespin [...]

2012 Mets Player Review: R.A. Dickey, RHP

r.a. dickey

R.A. DICKEY, RHP PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS: R.A. Dickey had been a journeyman with a trick pitch his entire career, winning a career-high 11 games in 2010. Realistically, they had no right to expect more than that from him at age 37 and figured to be third or fourth in the rotation at best. Only injuries or poor performance from others could elevate his status, and was why he was in the Mets’ rotation in the first place. [...]

Is Patience Really A Virtue?

wright homers

I saw a link on MetsBlog that sent me through a wormhole and I ended up in the realm of Amazin Avenue where I discovered a post that asked: Who Was The Most Patient Hitter In 2012? If you click the title you can read the entire article in it’s full context, but I was vastly curious as to finding out who the answer to that question was. I was placing my bets on David Wright, [...]

MMO Mailbag: Is Carlos Beltran A Hall Of Famer?

Atlanta Braves v St Louis Cardinals

I received this email from one of our longtime readers who you all know as Markcomic1. This question popped into mind as I was doing my usual joke writing, baseball reading and news trolling. Carlos Beltran is sneaking up on 2000 hits for his career, he has over 330 home runs and over 300 steals with a decent .280 plus batting average lifetime. Is he a potential Hall of Fame candidate and why? Also what five peers (same age/time [...]

Beltran Sets Postseason Record In SLG and OPS, Pagan Could Net Giants A First Round Pick

carlos beltran homers

During the St. Louis Cardinals’ 6-4 win over the San Francisco Giants, Carlos Beltran who hit a two run homer in the fourth inning, became the all time leader with a .817 slugging percentage in National League Championship Series  history. This after becoming the all-time leader in the ALDS with a 1.486 OPS. Last night, Beltran admitted that the Giants never called him after the season ended and that there was still a little bitterness. [...]

2012 Mets Player Review: Johan Santana

Johan Santana

JOHAN SANTANA, LHP PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS: The only thing the Mets knew for certain about Johan Santana heading into the season is they would pay him $24 million. Coming off shoulder surgery and not having started since Sept. 2, 2010, the most the Mets could hope for was for him to stay healthy and start at least 15 games. Anything above that would be considered a bonus. 2012 SEASON REVIEW: He didn’t stay healthy, and for [...]
