Mets 2012 Season: Top 10 Disappointments
On Monday, me and John Delcos brought you the Top 10 Positives from the Mets 2012 season, and as promised here are our Top 10 Disappointments from the 2012 season in no particular order… Doing Nothing At Trade Deadline Kevin Burkhardt said the players looked at the front office’s inaction at the trade deadline as a “kick in the teeth”. The team had begun to slide after losing their closer, their ace and a very effective Dillon [...]

MMO Mailbag: Can Wilmer Flores Be A Fit In The Outfield?
Nikki asks… I have a question that hopefully you guys can answer. Has there been any consideration to playing Wilmer Flores in the outfield? He seems to be the only righthanded hitter in the upper minors that seems to have any upside, and the Mets also seem to be in much better shape in the infield than they are in the outfield in both the majors and minors. I haven’t heard any talk about him playing the outfield, but [...]

Pre-Heat The Hot Stove: Mets & Rockies A Match?
You’ve heard it, I’ve heard, everybody has heard it. The Mets do not plan on being active through free agency but they do intend on being active through trades this winter. Only time will tell what really happens, but those words from Alderson has pre-heated the hot stove oven for sure! Everywhere you go, you see a list of trade possibilities. J.P. Arencibia, Justin Upton, Josh Willingham, trading Wright, trading Dickey. The list goes on. [...]

Is Daniel Murphy The Answer At Second Base?
It seems that there is a portion of the fan base that still doesn’t think that Daniel Murphy is the second baseman of the future for the New York Mets. Maybe it’s because it looks as if Murphy is an extra outfielder at times, based on where he positions himself (short right field), but I can assure you he does play second base. And yes Mets fans, he has done enough in 2012 to be [...]

Mets To Offer Wright $100 Million Deal
According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, the Mets plan to kick off negotiations with their franchise slugger David Wright with about $100 million opening bid in an effort to make him a Met “for life”. Heyman goes onto say that the Amazin’s will be flexible in their negotiations as they will negotiate through October before they even consider dealing their third baseman. The Mets are also pursuing a an extension with their ace R.A. Dickey. [...]

MMO Minors Mailbag: Familia/Mejia – Starters Or Relievers
Aaron W. asks… Who is the better starter between Jenrry Mejia and Jeurys Familia? Is one better than the other? Are they starters or relievers in your opihion? Sean replies… The Jeurys Familia/Jenrry Mejia question will loom large in 2013, and honestly – there aren’t many accurate answers. Familia had a mixed season, and despite his ERA his control did in fact improve as the season went on, going down from 22 walks in 21.2 [...]

Melky or Upton Will Not Be On The Mets Radar This Winter
There’s plenty of intriguing possibilities, only if the Mets were willing to take a financial gamble, which Sandy Alderson said they are not inclined to do. As I posted yesterday, the Mets have $79.5 million of their earmarked $100 million to spend on six players: Johan Santana, RA Dickey, David Wright, Jason Bay, Jon Niese and Frank Francisco. B.J. Upton would be terrific in Citi Field, supplying defense to aid the pitching staff and offense. [...]

Kirk Nieuwenhuis In Centerfield: A Good Plan, Or Act Of Desperation?
Unless the Wilpons hit the Powerball jackpot in the next couple of months, the Mets are not likely to sign any big name free-agents, a la Josh Hamilton, to play centerfield. Barring any off-season trades (I don’t see anything significant occurring), Kirk Nieuwenhuis will be the Mets opening day centerfielder. Beam me up, Sandy. Captain Kirk is heading back to Queens. The question is whether or not Kirk can handle the everyday duties of being [...]

Braves GM Discusses Flaws With Wild Card Format, Infield Fly Rule
Atlanta Braves GM Frank Wren, made a few suggestions about the Wild Card format during an interview with David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Did this game show what some view as an inherent flaw in the Wild Card single-game playoff? “All of us at the general managers meeting when we talked about this format, it’s not a format that’s indicative of the best team. When you’re playing for six months and 162 games, this is [...]
