Mets Prospect Steve Matz Is Throwing In St. Lucie, Getting Ready For Spring Training
I was able to catch up with Mets minor league pitcher, lefty Steve Matz the other day, and I asked him how his arm was feeling with spring training right around the corner. Steve has already reported to the complex at St. Lucie to begin his throwing program in warm weather. He went under the knife, with TJS on his pitching elbow in 2010, and had to be shut down when he tried to pitch [...]

The Texas Rangers and Japanese RHP Yu Darvish have agreed to a six-year contract just before today’s 5:00 pm ET deadline, according to multiple reports. The two sides agreed on a multi-year contract that will pay him in the neighborhood of $10 million per season for six seasons. MMO Fair or Foul: Should SOPA Bother You?
MLB Supports SOPA and That Should Bother You I am all for legislation that goes after individuals that pirate copyrighted material. This bill appears to be too vague and far-reaching. Modern corporations can’t be trusted with this far-reaching power because they will use it in a way to destroy necessary competition. The reality is this type of bill could wind up legislating our news. Is that a situation you feel comfortable with? Imagine the only [...]

Jose Reyes To Kick Off ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, Mets Not Invited
ESPN Sunday Night Baseball will kick off the 2012 season with their Opening Night telecast featuring the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals versus Jose Reyes and the Miami Marlins on Wednesday, April 4, at 7 p.m. This season will also mark the debut of analyst Terry Francona, who ironically replaces Bobby Valentine and joins play-by-play commentator Dan Shulman and analyst Orel Hershiser in the Sunday Night Baseball booth. Bobby V of course, replaces Francona as the new Red Sox skipper. [...]

Taking A Deeper Look Into Pelfrey’s Contract
When things are going bad with a franchise, there are times when fans will look at every decision made and search for the negatives. Recently, it seemed as though some hysteria erupted at the fact that Mike Pelfrey signed a 1 year deal worth $5.7 million to avoid arbitration. Sometimes I find that people comment on things they either do not understand or refuse to understand. For me, if I don’t understand a process, I [...]

Don’t Shoot The Messenger: Concern Should Be About Medical Staff, Not Rubin
Anthony Rieber of Newsday spoke to Ike Davis yesterday who said that he does not blame the medical staff for the treatment of a bone bruise in his ankle despite the setback that occurred after the team opted to put the ankle in a boot that restricted circulation in his foot and ankle and prevented healing. “I wasn’t really angry because I didn’t know what was going on. I think that MRIs sometimes are misleading — now that I’ve [...]

Niese, Davis On Top 100 Major Leaguers 25 and Under
Matt Garrioch of Minor League Baseball Prospects (MILB Prospects) compiled a great ranking of the best players that are 25 or under. His list featured two Mets with Jon Niese at No. 64 and Ike Davis at No. 68, but oddly enough, Fernando Martinez now of the Astros checked in at No. 95. Here are the Top 50 and you could check out his great site for the rest his list. 1 Justin [...]

Looking Back At The Trades Sandy Alderson Should Have Made In 2011
Last season I thought I knew what was going to happen. I figured we probably would not be in contention for a playoff spot, but I was excited about the possibility of reloading at the trade deadline. We had guys like Beltran, Reyes, Dickey, Izzy, Hairston, Byrdak and Krod. All of whom I felt had the potential to bring back something from a team in contention who wanted to bolster their starting staff, bullpen, lineup [...]
