Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, confirmed that Mets GM Sandy Alderson would be interested in bringing back right-handed pitcher Chris Young under the right circumstances and most likely only on a minor league deal.

Last month on a conference call with reporters, Alderson said he had recently met with Young in San Diego: “He’s the kind of guy we might re-sign under the right circumstances.”

Back on December 6, Chris Young’s agent spoke to Corey Brock of MLB.com and said that Young was recovering well from his torn shoulder capsule and should be ready for spring training.

Given Young’s injury history I can’t see any team willing to pony up any big dollars or even a major league deal for him. The very little we saw of Young last season was tantalizingly good, but it was only 24 innings.

I wouldn’t be opposed to bringing him back on a minor league deal with an invite to spring training where he can battle Dillon Gee, Chris Schwinden and Chuck James for the number five spot in the rotation.

Young, 32, went 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA in four starts for the Mets.
