Gary Carter In Grave Condition
Gary Carter’s fight with brain cancer has turned from brave to extremely grave. On Thursday, Carter’s family received a phone call from the doctors at Duke University who have been treating the Mets Hall of Fame catcher informing them that the most recent MRI revealed “several new spots/tumors on his brain,” Carter’s daughter, Kimmy Bloomers, wrote on the family website. In recent weeks, Carter’s condition was visibly worsening, and Carter began complaining of severe headaches, fatigue [...]

What Does $90 Million Dollars Get You These Days?
The past few days have given me time to think, and, or course, attention drifts to the upcoming baseball season. Usually, this time of year has the optimism of spring training. With the Yankees making moves to improve their pitching, the Mets have done little. The Mets’ projected payroll for 2012 is $90 million, which is a long separation to that of the Yankees, Phillies and most any other team expected to contend for the [...]

From Left Field: Is Last Place Inevitable?
To answer the title question bluntly: Absolutely not. You have to play the games first before determining where a team will finish in the standings. But certainly on paper, the Mets appear to be the weakest link of the NL East heading into this season. Based on the offseason moves of the other teams, the NL East has the potential to rival the AL East as the top division in baseball. Let’s start with the [...]

Mets Invite Matt Harvey and Matt den Dekker To Major League Camp
The Mets have invited RHP Matt Harvey and CF Matt den Dekker to Mets spring training camp in Port St. Lucie. Adam Rubin also added that Zack Wheeler, who was aquired in the Carlos Beltran trade, was not extended an invitation. Harvey has been considered the more polished of the two and is said to be 1-2 years ahead of Wheeler in terms of development. Some experts have projected that Harvey could see some major league service time [...]

MMO Exclusive Interview: NY Mets Josh Stinson RHP
Some big positives that can be taken from the NY Mets 2011 season were the contributions, and emergence, of some promising young players that were called up from the minors. During the year, the Mets relied heavily on players like: Lucas Duda, Ruben Tejada, Dillon Gee, and Justin Turner. And in September, we got to see some very interesting pitching performances, by righties Chris Schwinden and Josh Stinson. I caught up to Stinson this week, and [...]

MMO Fair or Foul: Who Is Wright?
Buster Olney of ESPN.com, talked to three evaluators about Wright’s game. From an AL evaluator: ”He will have value at the trade deadline if healthy and performing as usual. He will bring compensation as a free agent, so his value to Mets is fairly high, and a team acquiring him will have to give up more than the value of a couple of high draft picks. He’s a very good player, but not consistent enough to [...]

Would You Decline Wright’s Option To Sign Josh Hamilton Next Offseason?
After posing this question via twitter, a debate ensued between myself and several Met bloggers including our own Joe D. and Brandon Butler. I thought I would ask the MMO faithful this same query: Would you do anything to sign Josh Hamilton next winter? Even if it meant losing David Wright? Personally, I think it is something to consider. Now that the Rangers have inked Japanese fireballer Yu Darvish to a major contract, the chances [...]
