Thanks For A Wonderful Year!
I can’t believe we are at the end of yet another year at Mets Merized Online. 2011 was a wonderful year for our site as we continued to grow far beyond my wildest expectations. I only wish that our beloved Mets was experiencing the same success as we are currently enjoying, but I assure you better days lie ahead for our Amazins’. In 2010, we ended a great year with an average of just over [...]

Top Ten Mets Headlines Of 2011
Good afternoon all. Just got back from Ohio and visiting with my family over Christmas. There was time to reflect on the year, which, of course, includes the Mets’ third straight losing season. The year was the first under the Sandy Alderson-Terry Collins regime, which was supposed to represent a change in the franchise’s culture and downward spiral. It did not. There were seemingly countless storylines that swirled around the Mets this summer, most underscored [...]

Roy Halladay Saves Boy From Anaconda While Fishing On The Amazon
According to NESN, Roy Halladay was on a fishing trip in the Amazon with Chris Carpenter, B.J. Ryan and professional fisher Skeet Reese, when he and Reese stumbled upon a local boy being attacked by an anaconda. Here is what happened according to Reese’s recent blog post: “Me and Doc Halladay even came across a local, sitting bare naked on a tree by the river. What we were able to figure out is that he was [...]

Ruben Tejada: Rey Ordonez or Something Even Better?
No matter how old some of the readers here are – young or old will surely remember the “Gloved One”, Rey Ordonez. Known for his defensive wizardy at shortstop, Rey-Rey debuted with the Mets in 1996 and was the Mets’ starting shortstop for the next seven seasons. He was a key component to what Sports Illustrated tabbed “The Best Infield Ever”. The great Ozzie Smith once said of Ordonez after watching him throw out a [...]

Mets Prospect Hub On Lagares, Wheeler, Nimmo, Fulmer
Tej from Mets Prospect Hub was kind enough to answer a couple of questions for me the other day via email: In Baseball America’s most recent rankings of the Mets top prospects, Zack Wheeler, Brandon Nimmo and Michael Fulmer held three of the top ten spots with Wheeler tabbed as the organization’s top prospect. Is that an indication of how talented these three prospects are or how poor the Mets farm system was to begin [...]

The Reyes and Pujols Contracts
I found it very interesting how creative both sides were in constructing the contracts for Jose Reyes and the Marlins, and Albert Pujols and the Angels.. Both players got huge deals, but each one took less money up front to help their teams in the next two years. ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick reported that Pujols’ 10-year contract was back loaded so that the Halos could afford to sign C.J. Wilson. The Marlins used their savings on Reyes’ backloaded [...]

Mets Project A Better Than 10% Increase In Attendance In 2012
In a follow-up to the S&P story making the rounds today, the New York Times reported that according to S&P the Mets project a better than 10% increase in attendance for the 2012 season. S.&P. also described as “aggressive” the team’s preliminary projection that attendance will rise to 2.5 million in 2012 from 2.29 million last season. It said attendance was likely to keep falling and that a third of its luxury suites are up [...]

Mets Interested In Ryan Theriot
The Mets are among three teams including the Braves and Rays who are among those interested in free agent infielder Ryan Theriot, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. According to MLBTR, the Reds and Rockies are also said to have interest in the infielder Theriot, 32, batted .271/.321/.342 in 132 games last season for the Cardinals. In 483 plate appearances he had one home run, 26 doubles, three triples, 47 RBI and 46 runs scored. He has always been very difficult to [...]

From Left Field: 2012 Mets Predictions
In anticipation of a new baseball season, all we’ve been hearing about is how the bad the Mets are going to be and how much financial trouble the team is in. Well, though I’m usually the optimistic around here, I can’t help but admit that 2012 might be a long season. But if Sandy Alderson has taught us anything in his tenure as general manager, it’s that baseball is a marathon, not a sprint. The [...]

David Wright’s Trade Value: Perceived vs. Reality
Two weeks ago, if someone had put a gun to my head and asked me if David Wright would still be a Met on Opening Day, without hesitation I would have said yes. Now I’m not so sure. After reading about a Wright trade rumor here on MMO that I initially was skeptical about, I now cannot deny how the buzz and talk surrounding Wright has ramped up since then – even hitting the MSM – all [...]

A Letter To R.A. Dickey
Dear R.A. It has come to our attention that you plan on doing a charity junket to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, in Africa. Although we are sure that it is for a worthy cause, unwed mothers is that right? As your employer the N.Y. Mets respectfully request that you reconsider. Mountain climbing is the third most dangerous sport in the world, eclipsed only by shark punching, and professional eating competitions. If you slipped while [...]
