Mike Baxter Could Replace Reyes On Roster If He Goes On DL

According to Adam Rubin, if the Mets place Jose Reyes on the DL before tonight’s game against the San Diego Padres, outfielder Mike Baxter will get the call to replace him on the roster. [blackbirdpie url="http://twitter.com/#!/AdamRubinESPN/status/100613618705506304"] The 26-year-old Baxter was claimed off waivers from the San Diego Padres on July 22nd on the recommendation of Paul DePodesta. Baxter has played played first base in the minors, and in 11 games with Triple-A Buffalo was hitting .256 with [...]

MMO Readers Love The Blue Jerseys!

Atlanta Braves v New York Mets

On Saturday, I launched a new MMO Poll asking our readers what they thought of the Blue Los Mets Jerseys the Mets wore on Friday night.  THE RESULTS ARE IN! Our boys were popping in those jerseys and as these results show, our readers overwhelmingly loved them. As I said in my original post, I’m thinking it’s time to ditch the black uniforms once and for all, and bring some more “Orange and Blue” back into the dugout. [...]

Why Must The Mets Play With Our Emotions So Much?

Being a Mets fans is a full time job. It takes a toll on you mentally, physically (if you break stuff) and emotionally. I can not remember a season in recent memory that was just fun, exciting and enjoyable without any let downs at seasons end. It’s part of what makes being a Mets fan so much fun, and ultimately so rewarding when the finally do win. Since I can remember the Mets have been [...]

Is Jason Bay FINALLY Turning The Corner?

I know, this is probably the third time someone has written an article just like this when Jason Bay has begun to play decently, but in the past 10-15 games, Bay has looked very strong at the plate. Could this finally be the arrival of the 66 million dollar man that the Mets signed in January of 2010? I am still obviously skeptical, but I think it is possible Bay could finally be finding himself at the plate [...]

The Straw That Broke The Camels Back

As much as it pains me to say, yesterday’s loss meant more than just an “L” in the loss column. It pretty much signified the end of the Mets playing somewhat meaningful baseball in 2011. The loss dropped the Mets back below .500 and nine back in the wild card. Couple that with the loss of their hottest hitter over the past month and a half in Daniel Murphy (torn MCL), plus shortstop Jose Reyes (hamstring), and [...]

Zack Wheeler Fans Seven; Hurls Six Scoreless For St. Lucie

Zak Wheeler

Zack Wheeler rebounded from a poor start last week, and tossed six scoreless innings for St. Lucie while earning his first win in just his second start since joining the Mets organization. The young right-hander showed excellent command and held Charlotte to just four hits while walking none and striking out seven batters. For Wheeler it was his second straight outing without issuing a walk. The improved control is especially worth noting since one of the knocks on Wheeler since turning pro has [...]

Gee Struggles And Bullpen Fails Again In Mets 6-5 Loss

Dillon Gee struggled in five innings, and the bullpen struggled in the ninth as the Mets lost 6-5. Game Notes Dillon Gee had a bad outing today, and was victimized by three home runs. Gee’s final line: Five innings, five runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Whether it was a product of bad control or just good hitting, it isn’t to be seen but Gee couldn’t get by on smoke and [...]

NY Post: Mets In No Rush To Extend Collins’ Contract

In case you were wondering about manager Terry Collins’ contract status, here’s this from the NY Post: Terry Collins has done a “super” job, according to his boss, but that doesn’t mean the Mets are rushing to the manager with a contract extension. “That’s something we’ll not even think about until the end of this season,” general manager Sandy Alderson told The Post before the Mets’ 11-7 victory over the NL East rival Braves. Collins signed [...]

MMO Fan Shot – Believing and Quitting Make Strange Bedfellows

mmo fan shot

Once upon a time, on a hot August 6th day, our beloved NY Mets were nine games out of the playoffs. Not the Wildcard – there was no wildcard back then. In fact there was no Central Division either. Only two teams would make it to the playoffs each season and have a chance to face the best team in the American League. Our cross town rivals were 21.5 games out of their Division. These are the [...]

Game Summary Mets snap a five game losing streak with an offensive outburst. Mets hit four homeruns in a game for the first time this season, from three guys who combine for thirteen homeruns on the season. Niese didn’t have his A game but the offense helped him and bullpen was decent. Mets outslug and out run the Braves in an eleven-seven win! Game Notes Jon Niese is at the point where usually where he [...]

Mets Farm Report: August 5th, 2011 – Reese Havens 3-4, HR!

Buffalo Bisons 5 – Pawtucket Red Sox 6 Miguel Bautista‘s command was all over the place in this one and it cost him. In the 1st inning a leadoff double came around to score and then with two outs Bautista let up a solo homerun. In the 2nd inning, Bautista’s first walk of the game pushed the runner on first into scoring position and allowed him to score on a groundout the next at-bat when [...]
