Alderson: Mejia Won’t Be Ready Until Well Into 2012

Some news fron Buffalo where general manager Sandy Alderson is visiting with the Bisons. [blackbirdpie url="http://twitter.com/#!/BNHarrington/status/109072128124530689"] [blackbirdpie url="http://twitter.com/#!/BNHarrington/status/109072314691362819"]  Tough news on Mejia, no doubt… But typically, recovery time for Tommy John surgery is 12-15 months, so not a real surprise.

From Left Field: Greg Dobbs Shows Remorse For Striking Fan With Foul Ball

I’m not usually too keen on tipping my cap to players not wearing Mets uniforms, but this could not be overlooked. In an incident that was sort of forgotten in the Mets doubleheader sweep of the Marlins two days ago, Marlins third baseman Greg Dobbs did something that transcends the sport. In the ninth inning of the first, game Dobbs ripped a line drive into the first few rows along the first base line. The [...]

Another Preposterous Idea

If last week’s frightening thought of putting Mike Pelfrey in the closer role wasn’t bad enough, here is something just as baffling from Andy Martino of the Daily News.  Imperfect circumstances call for creative solutions, and in recent weeks the Mets have kicked around many ideas for 2012. In that spirit, a well-placed front office source said it is “a possibility” that the Mets will move Jason Bay to center field next year.  The mere thought of such a preposterous [...]

Don’t Count Out Reese Havens In 2012 Second Base Competition

You have to love the way middle infielder Ruben Tejada has sprung out of nowhere to become one of the team’s hottest hitters in August batting .364 with a .440 OBP and .500 SLG in 66 at-bats. On the year, Tejada has raised his batting average to .282, ahead of Justin Turner who is batting .257. Turner has cooled off considerably since getting off to a hot start after his promotion. Both Turner and Tejada are [...]

Reese Havens, a first-round pick in 2008, headines a list that also includes third baseman Jefry Marte, outfielder Juan Lagares and pitchers Collin McHugh, Brandon Moore and Taylor Whitenton. The two biggest names heading to the AFL this season are mega-prospects Mike Trout of the Angels and Bryce Harper from the Nationals. The season kicks off with Opening Day on Oct. 4 and wraps up with [...]

Gorski Hurls Five Shutout Innings After Winning FSL Pitcher of the Year

mets - darin gorski

On the same day that Mets pitching prospect Darin Gorski was named FSL Pitcher of the Year, he took the mound and hurled five more shutout innings for St. Lucie in a 2-1 win over the Fort Myers Miracle. Gorski was absolutely dominating and allowed just two hits and struck out five while walking none. His ERA now stands at 2.08 for the season in 21 starts. Nice job! Original Post: Gorski Named Florida State [...]

Pelfrey Pitches Into Trouble, Bullpen Fails, Mets Lose 6-0

mike-pelfrey-mets-tight-file-29e613e8891108a4_large-172x172

Mike Pelfrey pitched a solid game, but left runners on and the bullpen couldn’t hold in the Mets 6-0 loss against the Marlins. Game Notes Mike Pelfrey went six innings, and looked to be having one of his better starts in recent memory. Pelfrey allowed four runs on six hits, walking four and striking out three. While the control didn’t kill him today since he minimized the hits and didn’t allow an extra base hit [...]

Howard Johnson (HoJo) To Play For Rockland Boulders

Today the Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League announced that they have signed former New York Met Howard Johnson, along with his son Glen for the remainder of the season. I happen to live 15 minutes from Provident Bank Park, home of the Rockland Boulders, and interned there over the summer. This is the first year of the organizations existence, and they are rounding out their 50 game home schedule over the next week. Johnson [...]

Is Josh Thole The Answer At Catcher?

Quick, name how many catchers the Mets have drafted and developed that played in 300 or more games for them in the last 49 years? If you guessed ten, you were wrong. If you guessed five, you were still wrong. Believe it or not, the correct answer would be three; Duffy Dyer, Ron Hodges and Todd Hundley. Duffy Dyer 326 – Drafted by the New York Mets in the 1st round (9th pick) of the [...]

Prospect Pulse – The Shortstops

rose_harrelson

When the 2011 MLB season does finally come to a close, it will be time for the Mets to sit down with Reyes’ agents, and try and get a deal done to keep Jose Reyes in Flushing. It has to be a top priority for the front office heading into the off-season, but at the same time, no one is holding a gun to Sandy’s head and telling him to give Jose whatever he wants, [...]

Mets Notes: Mets Sweep, Davis Decision Looming, Johan Could Pitch For Mets Next Weekend

R.A. Dickey shut down the pesky Marlins in the opener, while Dillon Gee pitched solidly in the nightcap as the Mets completed a doubleheader sweep of the Fish. Gee pitched six effective innings, while Dickey dominated in game one pitching seven spotless innings in a 2-1 victory for Dickey’s first win since July 25. The Mets will continue their 5-game series with the Marlins tonight at 7:10 pm as Mike Pelfrey (7-10, 4.60 ERA) goes [...]
